Alternatives to single use water bottles.

People say that the 5 best steps to going waste free are refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, rot. The easiest and best thing that you can do as a consumer is to refuse. This means refusing plastic straws, or even bringing your own coffee mug to Starbucks next time. Most importantly, do not use plastic water bottles! This sounds like something so simple, but I still see people using them daUsing a reusable water bottle has so many benefits.

Every second each day, 1,500 plastic water bottles are thrown away. More than 38 billion are sent to landfills each year, and that’s just in the United States. I bring a reusable water bottle everywhere I go, to school, a friends house, lunch, shopping, and sports practices. Some people at my school will buy a bottle of water everyday a lunch and I just don't get it. Why not invest in a reusable one and avoid buying a new one everyday? They’re much more practical that single use plastics, and they are also more attractive.

I have five S'well bottles and 1 Camelbak. The Swells are great for keeping your beverage hot or cold. They are made of stainless steel, which means that they have an extremely long lifetime. They come in many different sizes and endless cute patterns and colors. Yes, they are a little pricey, coming in around 30 dollars for the medium size, but the price reflects its great quality and the long life that it will have. Plus, by not buying a plastic water bottle everyday, you will be saving money. The second brand that I recommended is Camelbak. These bottles are plastic, but they are not single use, meaning that they will have a lasting use.

I personally do not drink coffee at all, but I know many people who do and bring their beverage to school in a plastic or paper cup (which are lined with plastic). A great solution to this is a stainless steel thermos. When I bring tea to school I bring it in my Yeti or Corkcicle. Once again, they are both more expensive but will save you lots of money in the long run.

This is probably one of the easiest things that you can do to reduce your plastic use, and it is very cost efficient.
